Description

Join us for an insightful and exclusive ISEA member webinar on "Community Benefit Fund," chaired by ISEA.  This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of SEAI's Community Benefit Fund, and should be particularly interesting to developers.  During this session, you’ll learn more about this initiative designed to support local communities by providing financial backing for community-led renewable energy projects.

Agenda:

  • Introduction to Community Benefit Fund with Maeve O'Reilly, programme executive with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) working on the community energy team.
  • Case study presentation with:
  • Karina Dennigan, Stakeholder and Advocacy Manager for Bord na Móna Renewable Energy
  • Ryan Howard, Chief Executive with SECAD Partnership, a rural development NGO located in the town of Midleton, on the South Coast of Ireland.
  • Q&A session

The Panel:

  • Maeve O’Reilly is a programme executive with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) working on the community energy team. SEAI is the oversight and compliance body for RESS projects and was tasked with the development and administration of the Community Benefit Fund National Register. The Community Benefit Fund National Register is now open to all renewable energy projects in Ireland, both RESS and non-RESS, and offers a unique opportunity for developers to show-case the effects of their benefit fund in their local community and their dedication to community development.
  • Karina Dennigan is the Stakeholder and Advocacy Manager for Bord na Móna Renewable Energy. With more than 10 years’ experience in the energy sector, Karina has specific responsibility for the management of Bord na Móna’s Renewable Energy Community Benefit Funds including the €5 million Community Benefit Fund for Cloncreen Wind Farm which was successful in the RESS-1 Auctions and has successfully completed the distribution of its first round of Funding to the local communities.
  • Ryan is Chief Executive with SECAD Partnership, a rural development NGO located in the town of Midleton, on the South Coast of Ireland. Over the past three decades SECAD has managed rural development and social inclusion programmes in Cork region. Since 2015 SECAD have managed Community Benefit Funds for a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects building up a range of new supports designed specifically to maximise the use and impact of these funds. In 2021 SECAD began working with solar energy producers across Ireland to support them to manage, distribute and report on their Community Benefit Funds.
